Candidate Christopher S. Reed was born and raised in Montgomery County, Maryland. He comes from a family with a long history of public service across generations and professions. That legacy has shaped how he sees his role in the community and inspired him from an early age to work toward improving the state he calls home.
His great-great-great-grandfather, Edwin, served as an astronomer with the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey and contributed to surveying and mapping the Alaska-Canada border. Edwin was also a cofounder of both the National Geographic Society, and the Cosmos Club. His great-great-grandfather, Harold, served as Treasurer of the Rockville Chamber of Commerce and was later appointed as a judge by Maryland Governor Harry Nice. Harold also ran for the United States House of Representatives, reflecting a deep and lasting commitment to civic life.
Service continued in the generations that followed. His grandmother, Kitty, taught developmentally challenged children. His grandfather, Daniel, spent twenty years in the United States Navy, followed by twenty years in the fire department and twenty years in law enforcement, retiring at age 80 after six decades of work. His mother, Angie, worked for the City of Rockville providing transportation services for the Rockville Senior Center. His father, Stephen, dedicated the bulk of his career to Montgomery County Public Schools.
Christopher’s interest in public service began while attending Maryvale Elementary School when Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan visited his classroom. That experience stayed with him. He ran for student government throughout his education and was elected Junior Class President.
From President Barack Obama, he was awarded the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award through the President’s Education Awards Program. He was also recognized by Lions Clubs International for completing more than 100 hours of volunteer service in a single year.
In college, Christopher worked on the Montgomery College newspapers and served a year as President of the History Club. He gained experience in human resources, legal offices, and local media before beginning his current role for a French biotechnology company. Since Fall 2025, he has also worked part-time as a substitute teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools.
His volunteer work continues today. He has assisted with archaeological fieldwork and artifact processing at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center and has supported local arts organizations including Rockville Little Theatre and Rockville Musical Theatre. He has spent hundreds of hours on independent archival preservation, contributing to the non-profit Internet Archive. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking Maryland trails and believes that small, consistent actions, even something as simple as picking up litter on a daily walk, help strengthen the community.
Christopher Reed is running for the Maryland House of Delegates because he believes Maryland’s future should be built with the same sense of civic responsibility and commitment that shaped his own upbringing.
